Happy 2018! Have you recovered from your New Years Eve festivities yet? We stayed in so there wasn’t too much to recover from. This is the time of year that I dislike the most. Now that all of the excitement has died down, we are just left with some blah days here NE Ohio. To help brighten your winter, I have decided I am going to be spotlighting more fashion trends. I guess you could say this is my resolution for the year. I also want to start incorporating my personal stylist business more into the blog, along with working more on my YouTube Chanel. Sine we all have different styles and tastes, I will do my best to provide you with multiple ways to style the trends so that they best fit with YOUR style.
For our first trend of 2018 we are going to look at patent leather. If you head over to Instagram and do a search for #patentleather you will find tons of pictures featuring the shiny look. Even though the super shiny material is more common, it can seem a bit over whelming. If you are like me and don’t live in a major fashion city like New York, LA or Miami but rather a small town, the patent leather trend can almost scream a little too BDSM. Especially if you are doing an all over look. Not to mention it can be rather tricky to pull on a pair of patent leather pants even for the skinniest of models.
However, I do like this super shiny trend. I use to have a pair of patent leather platform heels that were my every day work show. Unfortunately, because they were my every day heel I had to replace them a year ago. At that time, patent leather had died down a little bit in popularity so I wasn’t able to find another pair. Not now baby! This trend was all over this last years runway shows. I also have a pink patent leather purse from Coach that was purchased a couple years ago that I completely forgot about until after I had taken these photos. That just means you will have to check back to see that beauty!!
For this weeks post I wanted to show you how you can incorporate this trend in small amounts. Maybe you are just wanting little peeks of patent leather, instead of a head to toe look. I also wanted to show you that you don’t have to go for the super shiny patent leather if that scares you. Both of the looks I am going to show you are featuring the trend in a not so shiny way. You still get some shine from the leather, but it doesn’t look like liquid latex. Like I mentioned previously if you want something super shiny but don’t want it in huge quantities, try a pair of patent leather shoes or a patent leather handbag. Having pieces like that in your closet can really turn the volume up on an outfit.
For my first look I went with a pair Lysse leggings that I received in my latest Dia&Co box. If you have never heard of Dia&Co, you can watch one of my unboxings over on my YouTube channel. These leggings have a panel of patent leather down the side that turns into a suede panel. You get just enough of leather to say “Hey, look at me”. These aren’t like your typical leggings for working out. They are thicker so you can easily dress them up, and they will keep you warm in the colder months.
I opted to pair the leggings with this bright red cropped sweater from Astra Signature. I actually won this sweater through the brand’s Instagram account right before Christmas! This top is definitely pushing me out of my comfort zone. I am very insecure of my lower abdomen (kangaroo pouch), so pairing the leggings with this sweater is completely scary for me! I love this sweater though!! It’s super soft and the red is right on trend for the winter. If you have been following me, you know that I love color. Because I am using small touches of the patent leather, I wanted a bright bold top to help push this look up a notch
I hope you enjoyed this look I put together. I can’t wait to show you the second one I have come up with! Are you a fan of the patent leather trend, let me know!
