Oh my gosh, it’s the end of July already. HOW. DID. THIS. HAPPEN. I feel like I haven’t even gotten to break out some awesome summer items yet. That just means these next few weeks I will be in summer inspo overload! One issue I have when it comes to my fashion is not getting something if I can’t immediately think of a way to style it. So for this week, I am showing you that when it comes to styling shorts, it isn’t always easy but that doesn’t mean you should give up.
Taking A Chance
I like to think of myself as not being fixed with one style. So when I got these shorts a few months back (one of my Dia&Co boxes) I almost sent them back. It wasn’t because I didn’t like them. I LOVED them. I just didn’t have a clue when it came to styling shorts that weren’t your basic denim. What made me love them was the olive green color and the lace detail on the bottom. Usually when you think of olive green your mind goes right to pumpkin spiced lattes and chunky scarves. To have a pair of shorts in this color excited me. Then there is the lace detail. There are a few vintage trends that I like and this delicate lace detail is one of them. It’s the perfect amount of vintage to mix with a modern silhouette.
Looking For Help Styling Shorts
These shorts were in my dresser for months! For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to make them work for me. My goal was to take them with me on our family vacation and finally get to wear them. As I started packing for the trip, I messaged one of my local blogger babes, Glam Karen (you should really check her out!) to help me out. I was messaging her different tops I had and she was giving me some awesome advice. However, i just kept coming up short (no pun intended!). There were a couple tops that might have worked, but everything was missing the mark. The shorts still made it in to my bag. Did I wear them? No. I just couldn’t find that perfect piece to go with them.
The Perfect Fit
A couple weeks back I took the little one for an afternoon trip to good ‘ole Target. We were getting ready to leave after not having much luck finding anything this momma liked and then something caught my eye. The palm prints have always been a fan of mine. Even if they are “sooo last year”. When I saw this tank I thought ” Those colors would look good with those olive shorts”. So I grabbed it along with a couple other tops that I thought would work with them. When I got home and put the two together I couldn’t have been more happy. It was exactly what I was looking for. It goes to show, just because you don’t know right away how an item is going to work doesn’t mean you should immediately write it off. When you find something you really love take the time to work with and make it your own.
