Good Girl Gone Rocker; Plus Size Trend Spotlight

If you are new here, one of the things I love the most about fashion is the ability to be a different person or character every day. My mood has a huge impact on how I dress. I also need to have options available. Hence why I cannot pack lightly! There needs to be multiple options in my suitcase because I don’t know what mood I am going to be in. Since I seem to have a bit of multiple personality disposition when it comes to my wardrobe, I feel more free to play around with different trends.

Last month I showed you a couple different ways on how you can play around with the patent leather trend. You have options to use the trend in small amounts, or go all out with trend. This month I am tackling a new, and possibly challenging trend for some. The punk/rocker trend is going to be popping up more. Last year the 80’s vibe was seen every where. You’re still going to see details of this era this year, but you will also start seeing the slide into the 90’s.

The best thing about the punk/rock trend is that you several decades of rock to chose from that best fit your style. If you are more of a grunge baby, you can add different touches of plaid in to your life.Break out those Doc Martens you’ve been holding on to and give them some new life! Don’t let the inspiration stop at your outfit. Look at the makeup from your fave era and play around with it to give it a modern twist.

I’m an 80’s baby and was really introduced to the rock music of the 80’s, 70’s and late 60’s when I met my hubby. Personally, I wish they would make more music like that now but I will just have to settle for the “classics”……ouch……I’m old. One of the easiest ways to embrace your inner rocker chick is with a band tee. If you are old……*coughs*…..like me, and don’t own your own band tee, steal one from the man in your life. After all, taking their tee shirts and baggy sweats is what they are for right? Oh, and reaching the top shelf! Don’t worry, if you weren’t lucky enough to be born in the best era, you can still get your hands on a great band tee.

Modern twist on rocker girl

Right now Forever21 has a few different options when it comes to band tees. There may even be a couple in my cart right now to surprise my hubby with. I think he really likes it when I wear a shirt with his fave band on it. I wanted to put a modern and glam twist on a rocker girl from the 80’s going to a concert or hitting the bars with her girls. So I paired this tee with a pair of basic black skinny jeans. I didn’t intentionally plan on wearing all black for this look and could also swap these black jeans out for my grey distressed pair. If you have a pair of motto leggings like these, I would bring those out for this look.

For me, if I am going to go full out rocker girl I am going to add an awesome moto jacket! I love this jacket from Dia&Co and didn’t want to take it off when I first got it. Don’t think that moto jackets are strictly in black. This look would look killer with a dark red or even white moto jacket. I love the berry colored one with a faux fur collar form Target, and it’s on clearance right now!

Band tees aren’t the only way you can incorporate a rocker vibe into your outfit. Leather and stud details can really bring a bad ass vibe. Asos has a couple dozen different options for a studded. This River Island crossbody and Box Clutch  may need to find their ways into my closet! I love that the box clutch in pink! It’s a great example of how you can love color, like me, and still be hardcore at the same time. ………………….Sorry, I may have gotten distracted by Asos’ site……………..

Ok, back on track. The last two pieces to finish off our look is shoes and jewelry. You have several different options for foot wear to bring this rocker look into the future. Depending on your comfort level you go with a pair of booties like I did here, or a higher calf boot. If you aren’t into wearing heels, go with a flat boot. You’re jewelry is the final touch, and you can really do whatever you like. Try playing around with mixing metals. If you have gold detailing on your bag try adding silver earrings. Also, don’t be afraid to go full on glam by pairing a chunky rhinestone statement necklace with this look.

In the end, work with what you have and what you are comfortable with. At the same time, try to take some risks and get outside of your comfort zone. You’ll never know how something works out until you try it. You may then realize just how awesome you are!

I love the way you styled the band t-shirt with the jacket. The lines of the jacket are amazing on you, and perfect for plus! I can’t wait to see more of the 90’s trends pop back up, I was born in the late 80’s so I still have lots of fond memories of some of the 90’s trends (saddle shoes). Keep inspiring with your great outfits, girlie!
