A few weeks ago, I was able to sneak away for a couple of hours. For a lot of moms, this is a something that rarely happens. I am lucky enough to have a husband that doesn’t mind if I take a few hours to myself.
Some may say that I am being selfish, or that my needs no longer matter. To those people, my needs do matter! Just because I am a mom doesn’t mean that I am no longer a person. I think every parent should take some time to get out of the house and do something fun and relaxing that they want to do. If I can’t take some time be myself, be the person I was before having children I feel that I may one day lose myself. Also, stepping away from the craziness that is parenthood can have a positive impact on a marriage. By de-stressing after a chaotic day, I will be less likely to become irritated or snap at my husband and vice-versa.
Girls Day Part One
Bring on the mani’s and brunch! I asked a girl I work with, whom I have become close to, if she wanted to get manicures and brunch with me (I say I am the older sister she never had, she says I’m the older sister she never wanted!). There is a salon I have driven past a few times and have wanted to check out. So I called and booked appointments.
The salon has a very rustic vibe which fits the area I live. It is a full service salon and day spa offering everything from haircuts, makeup, facials, massages to everything in between. I do wish when I had called to make the appointment, I was told about the manicure and pedicure special they were offering for $50, but that’s another story!
Girls Day Part Two
After we got our fingers looking fantastic, we headed to a local attraction of the food variety. Mike’s Place is…unique to say the least. There are several sections of the restaurant, all having their own theme. Have you ever wanted to eat inside a bus? Well you can here! How about tossing back a cold one in castle? You can do that too! One area has license plates covering the walls from all over. Oh, did I mention there is in X-Wing Fighter in the parking lot?
The menu is a whole other element to Mike’s. With elaborate descriptions to items like “The Son of Chuckie” (a grilled Texas toast, peanut butter, chocolate chips, bacon and potato chip sandwich-yes that is all on the sandwich) and “I Am So Confused, But Oh I Like it” (Gyro meat, corn beef, swiss and homemade blue cheese dressing on rye), it will take you all day just to figure out what everything is on the menu. Mike will even let you purchase a menu for $5. You can see the legendary menu, read the “Rules For Dining At Mike’s Place” and see how the restaurant stared here.
So it may not have been a fancy day with mimosa’s and massages, but we enjoyed ourselves immensely. I would love to hear how you like to get your “Me Time” or your favorite brunch places, so please feel free to leave me a comment!
