As much as my daughter hates jeans, I love them. She would rather spend her time in dresses and skirts, and I want all the denim! So imagine, much to her dismay and my affection, the happy dances I was doing when colored denim started surfacing. This is one of the hottest trends out right now and it’s a perfect time for all curvy ladies to get in on it.
Colors Of Denim
Colored denim has actually been around for a couple of years now, but I’m just now starting to see this trend pop up more in plus size stores. You can get just about any color under the sun. Depending on your style, you can find the darker, richer, jewel tones like plum and burgundy, or pastel colors in pinks and corals. There are also a lot of Earth tone shades making their way around. Just like traditional denim, you can find that color denim comes in different washes. Maybe you prefer the rich bold colors like cobalt blue, or maybe you want something a little worn like a faded olive.
If this is your first time experimenting with colored, congratulations! Once you start playing around with different colors and washes, you are sure to find something that fits in with your style. And ladies, please, you are NEVER too old for anything. You are never too old to wear colored denim or distressed denim. Don’t listen to the haters. They are just jealous that they don’t have the confidence to pull off something that will put attention on them.
Colors For Your Shape
For my shape, and post-pregnancy, I will say that I am not fully comfortable yet with my lower stomach. One thing you can do to not put attention on this area is to go for a more darker colored denim. A darker red, green or even a rich cobalt blue instead of a light blue will help hide that lower tummy area. If you don’t have to worry about this, or you are fully comfortable with your shape, then go for it girl! Go after those yellows and light green colors!!
I’ve linked some great options for you below. Is your closet already full of colored denim or are you a virgin to this territory?
