I’m not one to set New Year’s Resolutions. Why put so much emphasis on this just one time a year? Throughout the year I will work on small goals I have to lead me towards a bigger goal. While I was off with my surgery I had made it a goal to build up a supply of blog posts and videos. This way when I came back to work I wouldn’t be putting so much stress on myself to produce the content I wanted to. Well, it didn’t turn out that way. Today I’m giving you my tips on what you can do when you’re finding it difficult to accomplish tasks that lead to your goals.


Get A Buddy

For me, I have found that I need an accountability partner. Someone who will support me, uplift me but also be honest and upfront (without being plain mean) with me. Having someone who not only supports you but also understands what it’s like when you’re trying to rule the world can help you tremendously. This is where the strong girl tribe comes in. Set up a time once a month to text or Skype with a friend who you can trust and talk about what issues you’re having and celebrate each others’ success.

Post It

A lot of us love the idea of a planner. Hell, I love the idea of a planner. However, when you don’t open your planner what purpose does it have. At that point, you just have something else cluttering up your desk. So if you’ve found that while you like the idea of writing things down but can’t bring yourself to open a planner, invest in sticky notes. That’s right. Sticky notes. Put your goals and tasks down on brightly colored sticky notes and then put them EVERYWHERE. By seeing these brightly colored pieces of paper everywhere, you’re keeping things that mean the most to you in the forefront of your brain.

The biggest downfall I had while I was spending a month home alone was watching tv. Instead of doing the productive things I needed to do to reach my goal, I would end up on the couch binge-watching old episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix. Then when that was done I moved on to  Game Of Thrones. Don’t do what I did.

If you find yourself at a point where you can choose between working towards your goal and spending two hours going down the rabbit hole that is YouTube or Pinterest, ask yourself this question. “Is spending my time doing this getting me closer to my goal?” Now you are forced to consciously say yes or no and then either spend your time elsewhere or realize that it isn’t benefiting you in the long run.

Change Of Scenery

Look around you and count how many distractions you have. Are there kids running around? Dishes in the sink? Stranger Things on Netflix ready to be binged? If you make an effort take away those distractions and work, you will feel so empowered and accomplished when you’ve put in an hour or two of work.

So get out of the house. Head over to your local library for some quiet time. If you have the means, you could even look into local work sharing spaces in your area.



Treat Yourself

Recently we potty trained our daughter. The one thing that ended up doing it for her was a giant sticker chart I made. Ever time she went #1 or #2, she got to put a sticker form a special sticker book I got her on the chart. After different stages, she got a prize. Then, when she completed the chart and had no accidents, she got to go to the toy store and pick out her own toy.

Why wouldn’t this work for adults? Make a little road map for yourself with all of your small goals/tasks and then have your big goal at the end. Every time you reach one of your small goals or tasks, treat yourself to something. Grab a coffee. Go Get a mani/pedi. Pick a new pair of fashion earrings to add to your collections. Get a macaron from the new hot spot in town. Once you’ve reached the end throw a party for yourself and invite your gal pals.

Don’t Feel The Burn(out)

As you’re planning out your week and month, force yourself to schedule time off. Pick a day and make that a day where you do nothing that is goal related. This may seem a bit counterintuitive. Simply having one day off to give yourself a mental rest can help you feel energized and refresh to start off a new week of goal crushing.

This can be a day where you finally get to watch that show you’ve been putting off. Or you get out of the house with your family and gave some fun. Whatever you do, make sure you are enjoying yourself not stressing about what needs to be done.

    What great tips! My favorite was don’t feel the burn(out)! That’s definitely something I struggle with because I feel guilty not doing anything. Love the suggestion to schedule an off day.
