Happy Saturday lovelies! Ok, I know the title isn’t great and doesn’t speak to my need to plan things out, but it seriously was last minute. This family photo shoot was also a learning experience for me. The last time we had professional photos done was when our daughter was a new born. Even then I had a friends mom take the photos for me. I couldn’t believe how pricey it was going to be for some pictures of a newborn. Things have definitely changed in the photography world since Josh and I were married 8 years ago. Back then, lol like it was really that long ago, we spent around $150/$200 and got HUNDREDS of PRINTS. When did photographers stop doing prints?
Booking The Shoot
Since this was the first time I have tried to do a family photo shoot for Christmas, I had no idea how soon people book their photos. I knew I wanted to use someone local and I also wanted outside photos. I went on to my local Facebook Buy Sell Trade and quickly saw a local photographer advertising her Christmas photo sessions. There were only a couple spots open, and this was the first of November! I hurried up and messaged her and then sweated waiting to hear back. We were able to snag up one of those open spots, yea!
I chose The Picture Place and honestly, I really lucked out. I hadn’t been recommended to her, asked for testimonials or even really looked at any of her photos on her site. Actually, I even booked the session without knowing how much it was going to be! The session ran us $80 and we were able to get 8 digital prints. When I was looking for a photographer to do my daughters newborn photos, everyone wanted $150/$200+ for 5-10 digital prints. So price wise I really lucked out!
What We Wore
I knew I had wanted to keep us on the same color scheme, but didn’t want to be exactly matching. Have you ever seen those posts on the internet of the awkward family photo shoot pictures? Well I did not want to end up on that list. I decided on doing something in the burgundy color family. Baby Girl’s outfit came first. Everything came from Old Navy.
I found the perfect little burgundy cardigan online and was then on the search for a top to go with it. The top I got her is no longer available, but this one is super adorable and on sale! I’ve started getting her the ballerina style jeans from Old Navy. She has her momma’s thighs. Even though she is not even 2 yet, I get her everything in a 3T. I can’t believe how small they are cutting baby clothes. The ballerina jeans have an amazing amount of stretch to them. Her boots are also from Old Navy and I love these faux fur ones as an alternative.
For my look I knew I was going to wear a simple skinny jean. These Celebrity Pink jeans have an amazing fit! You can also snag them for 30% off at Macy’s. For a while I had been on the hunt for a good fitting pair of over the knee boots. Also I wanted something a bit of a heel. I am on the shorter side at 5’4″ and find that flat shoes seem to cut my leg off and make look/feel shorter. I found these boots from Torrid and immediately fell in love.
The distressed brown and chunky heel are perfect for I was looking for. My only thing with these boots however, they say they are over the knee and the aren’t. Like I said I am only 5’4″ and the top of the boot hits me right in the middle of knee cap. I’m disappointed though. They don’t seem to be available any more and didn’t get them that long ago. I do like these as an alternative.
For some reason I was nervous I wasn’t going to be able to find a burgundy top to wear. I headed over to Target and was not disappointed. I found a couple different tops for our family photo shoot and went with this fuzzy sweater. This sweater actually came from the misses/juniors side and started with the XXL. It fit, but looked a little sloppy. I went down to the XL and it fit perfectly. I am normally an 18/20 so was surprised that this sweater fit. It still has a little baggyness to it but isn’t sloppy looking. It also comes in 6 colors!
Again, Josh’s look came from Old Navy. I was able to find him a burgundy sweater. It’s something he can wear to work if he wants or whenever he feels like wearing something other than basketball shorts and a t-shirt. I swear, he will wear shorts all year round. If he could get away with wearing the mesh basketball shorts to work, he would. I grabbed him a pair of medium wash jeans in the loose fit. He actually said these were the most comfortable pair of jeans he has ever worn. I am going to have to go back and get him more if this means he will actually wear pants!
Here is how the rest of the photos turned out. I am really happy with them. The Picture Place will absolutely be the place I turn to in the future for our family photo shoot. I don’t think I did too shabby having only 2 weeks to put everything together. The Christmas cards I made on Snapfish are on the way. Side note, I ended up snagging the photo Christmas cards for 70% off! So head on over there and get you some cards!!!
I hope you all have an amazing week. If you haven’t already, head on over to my YouTube channel and subscribe for even more Plus Size Diva news!
